Spotlight Extensions Installation Guide

The Spotlight team are proud to announce the release of Spotlight Extensions for SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).

Once installed simply launch SSMS, sign in to Spotlight and start analyzing your Query Plans and SQL statements.

Note: Spotlight Extensions can only be installed in SSMS versions 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2017.

Install & Start using Spotlight Extensions

1. Download and install Spotlight Extensions

Download the Spotlight Extensions installer here (or above).

Then launch the installer and this will search for the suited versions of SQL Server Management Studio. Click Install!

2. Sign in

When you access a Spotlight Extensions feature you'll need to sign in to continue. This is required as part of our enhanced security measures. If you don't have a Spotlight Account sign up. It's FREE and only takes a second.

3. Monitoring within SSMS

If you are a Spotlight Enterprise user you can monitor your SQL Server connections within SQL Server Management Studio by connecting to your Spotlight Enterprise Diagnostic Server.

In the coming months we plan to release a new and improved free SQL Server monitoring tool for Spotlight Extensions users. Stay tuned!

To connect to your Spotlight Enterprise Diagnostic Server complete the following steps.

1. Go to Spotlight menu and select "Settings" (diagram 1)

2. The Settings dialog will display. Choose "Diagnostic Server Configuration.

3. Type in your Spotlight Enterprise Diagnostic Server address and press "Save"

You're now connected and should see the heatmap, alarms, overview and other drilldowns populate within SSMS.

If you want to make any changes to the monitoring configuration like uploading data, or adding new connections you need to do this via Spotlight Enterprise.
